Sarah meets (sort of) Francis Kong and Martin Tan
Last September 3, Jobstreet.com conducted a Career Congress 2010 for Students with the theme “BUILDING LEADERS: Developing Future Leaders in the Workplace” at the SMX Convention Center, Seashell drive SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City (Bongga! Complete address.. haha). According to them the delegates were around 5,000 and almost all of them were student leaders from different universities in Luzon. They invited Mr. Francis Kong, president of Success Options Publishing Company, and Mr. Martin Tan, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Halogen Foundation Singapore, as keynote speakers. I heard that Mr. Kong and Mr. Tan sounds are like John Maxwell’s disciples (it sounds so interesting to me).
Mr. Kong talked about the five levels of leadership: (1) Position Leadership, (2) Permission Leadership, (3) Production Leadership, (4) People Development Leadership, and (5) Presenter Leadership (not sure sa number five, haha, sorry naman). He also shared this principle: “Leaders are life-long learners.”
Oo nga! Pero grabe nabitin talaga ako sa talk niya. Kung pwede lang two hours s’ya magsalita eh, haha. Kaya nga nung nagpapaalam na siya sumisigaw talaga ako, “MORE, MORE, MORE!” hahaha. I really love him (hahaha). Ang ganda talaga! Ang dami kong natutunan sa kanya lalo na he was discussing more about leadership in the workplace. Paraphrasing ‘yung sinabi niya, ”Work is not about you, the compensation or the benefit you can have, BUT it is about you serving people.”
I was reminded that the course I am taking is not really an accident; there are no accidents in God’s plans. When I was in high school I dreamed of helping provinces with their transportation and roadway systems pero hindi ko naman alam kung paano (haha). Nainis kasi ako sa napanood ko dati sa isang documentary na poor transportation system ang dahilan kung bakit madaming Pinoy sa probinsya ang lugmok sa kahirapan.
Going back to Mr. Kong, one thing that shocked me about him is that he is a high school PhD degree holder because he took high school for 6 years, hahahaha!!! God allows problems and weird things to happen para mas matuto pa tayo. And I guarantee you na lahat ‘yun for our own benefit din.
Punta kayo sa FRANCISKONG.com if you want to know more about him.

On the other hand, Mr. Martin Tan talked about change and leadership. “Leadership is not about people in positions of power but people in positions of influence,” he said. True. Well, sabi nga ni John Maxwell, “Leadership is influence—nothing more, nothing less.”
Even if I’m not one of the officers of our department (PICE-CESS), nararamdaman kong naiimpluwensyahan ko naman sila (haha). I am just so blessed na sa akin lumalapit ‘yung president namin, asking different questions and suggestions. I make sure na tama ‘yung mga nashe-share ko sa kanya. (All because of what God has done in my life.) Ang sarap kaya maging mentor ni Lord =).
Moving on, before Mr. Tan left the stage, he challenged us with these words: “Someday, someone in this planet will do something that will change our world. Why not you?” Naging challenge ito sa akin upang gumawa ng desisyon. Why don’t we start changing the world we now belong? Our schools and universities, perhaps.
I am so thankful that God allowed me to attend this event. Ang dami ko talagang natutunan. It’s just that I have a big regret: Hindi man lang ako nakapagpapicture sa kanila!!! (WaAaAah, haha). Isang matayog na pangarap ko ang magkaroon ng picture with them. Picture with my new crushes (toinkz, hahaha).
